12/14 MD/VA/DC Weather Outlook

Posted on December 14, 2004 By Mid Atlantic Weather No Comments on 12/14 MD/VA/DC Weather Outlook

The forecast takes a turn to a more threatening potential winter storm, though eastern areas are the most threatened now. I would not latch on to a specific time or try and pinpoint location now, or be convinced a storm will hit, but there is much to watch for the next several days.

Summary:

The cold will be really noticeable today. Many areas will struggle to make it out  of the 30s. Long term, the storm that has appeared, disappeared, and now reappeared will be interesting to watch. There are arguments against a storm (no negative North Atlantic Oscillation, no 50/50 low) but there have been several model runs implying something will form off the SE United states coast. I will not go into great details, but definitely give a heads up! This will be the first day of my winter weather discussion Blog. A direct link is http://mawinterweather.blogspot.com I will highlight the potential. Also, of note, my new Weather Forum is now up and running at http://www.midatlanticweather.com/bb/ . I will be responding to the chances of a White Christmas soon!

Tuesday: SW: 35-45 SE: 38-48 N: 30-40

Very cold day.

Wednesday: SW: 40-50 SE: 40-50 N: 30-40

Sunny and cold

Thursday: SW: 45-55 SE: 45-55 N: 40-50

Slight Moderation to normal temperatures. Some increasing cloudiness

Friday: SW: 45-55 SE: 45-55 N: 40-50

Cloudy.. temps a bit colder.

The Weekend:?

I honestly need to consider everything and examine the models more closely. I think this will be a very difficult forecast as classic snow storm conditions do not exist. Much more here and on my site under Winter Weather>Mid Atlantic Winter Weather Blog and soon on the forum at http://www.midatlanticweather.com/bb/

Long Term:

A chance at a real chill next week and more winter weather possibilities as the NAO appears to go negative and a 50/50 low sets up!

Really quick: Importance of a 50/50 low from http://www.wxrisk.com at http://www.wxrisk.com/SECS/5050/50-50.htm
