First of all we still have the remnants of Gaston
Today which will traverse the state causing a path of
very heavy rains. It appears that Gaston will take the
heavy rain swath east of a line from Danville to to
Washington DC to Wilmington Delaware. Ironically, the
heavier rains look to go west of a line from Norfolk
to Salisbury.. BUT.. Tropical systems can easily make
a small shower a very heavy rainstorm, so anywhere
east of the Mountains may see heavy rain storms this
afternoon. There is the risk for brief tornadoes,
especially east of the track.
Now Frances! I am more concerned that the Southeastern
US may be struck after all. Latest models have turned
the storm to NC/SC/GA threat! IF SC/NC get hit again
this would be the 5th tropical system to hit there
this year! So my Florida thoughts are changing! It is
important because its remnants would threaten here if
the northerly tack verifies! This will be the last I
discuss it until (and if) it poses a threat to our
weather.
So today, heavy rain across the piedmont and coastal
areas with hit or miss heavier rainstorms elsewhere.
As I also said, brief tornadoes will also be possible
east of the actual track of Gaston.
All for now!
