The rain will become even more scattered today, but areas of the mountains continue to have a chance for the heavier rains and that could exacerbate the flooding that has been occurring for some. These areas are under a slight risk for flooding today. Rains ranged dramatically over the last few days! Some saw 8″+ of rain while many saw 2 to 4 inches. Areas dry definitely had relief. We will dry some tomorrow, and Sunday looks sunny.
Another Marginal risk today will be for some severe storms in the Southern part of VA and down into NC. The Severe Storms prediction center has highlighted the areas with a marginal risk with the biggest threat being heavy rains, hail, and winds, but an isolated tornado is not out of the question. Actually, some very large hail has happened in some of the storms even overnight, so be careful out there! A lot of lightning as well!
AS OF NOW – Next week looks dry and Seasonal temperature wise. We have to watch the future track of Hurricane Matthew, which will likely become a Major Hurricane (Winds 110mph+) later today as he is already at 105mph. There are some close calls to the East Coast, but my current feeling is just east of North Carolina.
