A plume of moisture from the tropical Pacific Ocean south of southern Mexico is streaming northward across the Gulf of Mexico and into the US ahead of a slow moving frontal system. This moisture will continue to move east, bringing increasing potential for torrential downpours and localized flooding across the Eastern US over the next few days.

There is also potential for severe thunderstorms today and tonight across the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys into the central Appalachians. The severe thunderstorm potential will diminish somewhat for Thursday as the threat area shifts east ahead of the advancing frontal system.
